Putting the fork down

“We build our lives on the myth of more,” Joe Dominguez wrote. How true this is with food – or with happiness itself.

If we’re honest with ourselves, we can see how much of our lives are spent in this quest for more…a feeling of this moment, this meal, this body, this life isn’t enough. I think of times when I eat a full plate of food and yet I still want more….a craving that wants satisfaction, a sweet hit, a treat, a dessert, another bite, more fullness.

The pain of this feeling of “I don’t have enough” can sear us, on the deepest level as, “I’m not enough.” Or, “Life isn’t enough.”

What helps us find enough and put the fork down? Ironically, we find enough by honoring limits.

Listen to this podcast on finding enough with food.
