In preparing to release the overeating support program, Heal Overeating: Untangled, I share another audio blog today. It’s something that prompted surprisingly strong feelings.
A magazine article expressed the notion that we shouldn’t need, consciously or not. While the topic concerned electricity, I find parallels to the chatter that goes on in our heads about minimizing all kinds of needs we have in our life – like hunger. Or deeper needs for love, belonging, beauty, acceptance and apprecition.
Where does this anxiety come from, this irritated feeling that grows when our needs demand attention? What kinds of internal judgments do we make about ourselves and our needs as we go throughout our days, trying to disguise our needs? Why do we have such a hard time with being needy?
I relate this to how we can express our interdependence and belonging to one another. And how does this relate to diets and why they hold such appeal..

Something funny. When she first said “Heal Overeating,” I thought she said
“Keel Over Eating.” Then I realised. Made me laugh!
You are welcome, Rosalie! I think many of us have a hard time needing….it’s part of being human. To be honest and human and vulnerable takes courage – especially when so many of us walk around trying to show only our “together” side.

This audio blog hit me like a rock between the eyes! I do so much to avoid needing anything or to ask for anyone’s help. And of course, with food, I eat too much instead. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this and for opening my eyes to seeing this in a different way.
