Self-care is a pathway to the soul: the bridge between your humanity and your spirituality. Putting yourself first is not selfish, but a spiritual act of service. It’s what allows your spirit to thrive and to shine. This strong, rooted, nourished self is the authentic you that you then share with others.
The daily act of loving and caring for yourself bolsters the belief that you are a worthy, lovable human being who has a right to be here. Who has a right not only to be here, but to live a joyful life.
We all have stumbling blocks, false beliefs and fears and habits that keep us in suffering, that keep us from this joyful life. Self-care is an end to this suffering. It is the pathway: what removes the obstacles to joy, peace, and love. It’s how we come home. It’s how we end the belief that we are flawed, unworthy, or incomplete.
Every time you care for your needs, you are saying: I will no longer participate in my own suffering. I will no longer believe that I am incomplete. I will no longer be separated from my true self. I will no longer stumble on those roadblocks. Instead, I will pass them by.
This journey is about so much more than food, or body image, or sugar, or motherhood or self sabotage. It’s about returning to your true nature. It’s about living your spirituality. It’s about living and abiding in gratitude, presence and joy.

Hi Carmen,
I hear your sadness that men are excluded.
I know that there are men who need support with food and body image, too – which is why I offer everything (articles, email newsletters, ebooks and support programs) except the forums to men as well as women.
We limit the Support Forums to women for the sake of intimacy and nurturing: let’s face it, we talk differently when it’s just other women around. I want women to feel free to let it all hang out. It’s a different kind of experience, and supports the larger mission of First Ourselves to strengthen, embolden and empower women.
Heartening to find a supporting community like this disheartening to find it’s for woman only. Why would you discriminate based on gender we all eat and almost all have challenges in this area Sugar addiction is not gender specific why are you?
